Age May Be More Appearance Than Reality

By Tom Herrin

Most people accept whatever their culture seems to provide.  In other words, they often believe what they see around them.  If others seem to be somewhat broken down and aged even though they are younger, they may assume that is normal.  The fact is that many people appear to look and act older when there is really no good reason.  If may be more a result of poor practices and choices than any other factor.  Studies have shown that people who have lived very inactive lifestyles for long periods of time can still make changes that may turn around the aging process.

Many May Judge By What They See

Most people have a vision in mind of what they consider an aged look.  Wrinkled or worn looking skin, bent over bodies, and difficulty moving around well are all things often seen as signs of someone suffering from the effects of aging.  While some of this could be genetic, much is the result of neglect or simply bad choices.  As people get a little older, it is natural for the supply of blood to lessen.  Lack of sleep and/or water can make the skin appear more wrinkled.  Simple inactivity can leave the body less able to move around without what seems like difficulty.

Exercise Can Do Small Wonders

It is well known that regular activity can keep the body working as it should.  Muscle loss is natural as people age, but much of it can be delayed with a regular exercise program.  Regular definitely means just that.  People have to commit to several time per week for at least a minimum period of time.  They have to challenge their bodies.  I know from personal experience that there may be some pain and discomfort from exercising enough to make a difference, but after doing so, I feel energized and remain capable of doing things I would not be able to do otherwise.

Eat Well And Socialize

You simply have to make good choices in your diet.  There is plenty of information available.  If you want to go for greater longevity, you may want to add more fish or something containing omega-3.  The Japanese seem to have longer lives than most cultures, and fish is something they consume quite a bit of.  Another thing that seems to be related to longer life is a good social life.  This could be due to the activity involved.  Whatever it is, it seems to help.  If you want to look and feel younger, and maybe live longer, get out there and take control of your life today.
