Great Workouts Are Injury-Free

By Tom Herrin

No matter who gets involved in being physically active, they will be far more motivated to continue if they are free of injuries.  They can ruin the best of programs, and all too often people who are becoming enthused about their new endeavor let their excitement overshadow their judgment in following through all of the things necessary to make their plan work successfully.  Those who fail to do some of the simplest things also fail in the program.  For many, once they have had such an experience, it is very difficult for them to regain the desire.

Give Your Body Some Credit

One of the funny things about the body is that it is sometimes more in tune than given credit.  When it sends signals to the brain, it is ignored too many times.  The body often lets people know when something is simply not right.  It may do this by having some kind of pain or excessive difficulty.  It may seem really worn out at that particular time.  These signs from the body may be telling people that it is not prepared for the task at that time.  In such cases, it is better to wait.  Injuries may be avoided, and the next opportunity may be sooner.

Water Frequently

Just like precious plants, people require water on a regular basis.  Too many times, people fail to drink enough water before working out and become easily dehydrated.  To rephrase a quote from Al Capone, drink water early and drink water often.  It actually is good advice.  When they do this, they will be prepared for physical activity.  Drinking water during the session and making a point to drink afterwards can help prevent problems related to lack of water.  This makes the session go better and the individual feel better afterwards.

We All Want the Easy Way

Most of us want things to go as well as possible.  In order to make this happen, we have to work hard, but more importantly, we have to work efficiently.  That can go hand-in-hand with our efforts to avoid injury.  When we maintain consciousness about it, we can be successful and stay motivated as well.  Let us make them work for us, and let them be good.  Our overall health will be the beneficiary, and we may be much better for it.
