Signs Anxiety is the Root of Your Problems

By Genevieve Cunningham

Anxiety is a serious problem in today's world. It seems as though more and more people are being diagnosed with this condition. But even with the rampant cases of anxiety, plenty of people are walking around unaware that they suffer from anxious feelings and emotions. If you suspect that anxiety is keeping you down, take a look at these signs that anxiety really is at the root of your major problems.

You Feel Panic in Normal Situations

If you’ve been in an accident of some sort or you’ve lost your job or you’re in danger, panic is a completely normal reaction. But if you’re fighting off panic attacks over lunch options or normal deadlines at work or relationships with other people, you may be dealing with a slightly bigger anxiety problem. So what can you do? Breathe deep, take a few minutes to yourself, and remember that you can’t control other people. All you can do is take care of yourself. If your panic attacks are getting in the way of everyday life, it’s probably best to speak with a doctor, as they’ll know what you need -- therapy, medication, new methods -- to keep you grounded and anxiety-free.

You Can’t Function

Anxiety can be debilitating. When it gets overwhelming, some people have a hard time functioning. They have a hard time going to work, and a hard time cooking and cleaning. But an inability to function in normal life is definitely a sign of something bigger going on. Don’t live with this symptom. Get help! Anxiety will rule your life if you allow it, but a professional can help you get it under control and feel better than ever before. If you’re having a hard time functioning, and there’s no other reason for the phenomenon, it’s definitely time to reach for help.

Stress is Keeping You Awake

Its OK to occasionally struggle with sleep. It happens to the best of is. But if you’re suffering from major insomnia, anxiety might be the cause. To combat it, try to lower stress levels before bed with some reading, a hot shower, or another technique. If you still can’t manage, see a professional and ask for some stress management techniques to help you fall asleep and get some rest.

Anxiety happens to just about everyone. It’s not something to be ashamed of, and it’s not something to ignore. If these symptoms are a part of your life, it might be a good idea to talk with a doctor. They can help you determine whether anxiety is the culprit, and if it is, they may be able to help you find some relief.  Anxiety is tough, but with some help and proper care, you can get it under control so that you can enjoy better health and everyday life.
