Start Feeling Pain-Free With Fresh Herbs and Spices

By Stephen R. Farris

We all deal with the occasional back, neck, or joint pain, but when it gets to the point that it lingers on longer than it should, the usual reaction is to reach for over-the-counter medicine for relief.

Unfortunately, OTCs only work for a little while or they simply mask the pain and symptoms. Taken for long periods of time, OTCs (and even prescription medication) can ultimately lead to addiction.

However, there are a few natural ways to treat pain without risking the chance of addition. These natural remedies may require you to take a look at your diet and make a few subtle changes in order to reap the benefits of relieving your pain.

This can be achieved by using nature's bounty of fresh herbs and spices. They won't work overnight, but when consumed (incorporating the herbs and spices into your daily cooking) on a regular basis, you might be pleasantly surprised and a little (or a lot) more pain-free.

Willow Bark

As far back as anyone can remember (and beyond), people have been using willow bark as a natural remedy to fight inflammation. Willow bark has similar properties as that of aspirin, since they both contain salicin. And similar to aspirin, they both share a few common side effects. However, the benefits seem to outweigh the bad since it helps relieve lower back pain, headaches, and the discomforts of osteoarthritis. Willow bark can be brewed as a tea, or taken in supplement form. It should only be used by adults, and if you're sensitive to aspirin you probably shouldn't take it.

Turmeric

If you've ever had chicken curry, curry soup, or used curry as an ingredient in your cooking, then you've been introduced to turmeric. Turmeric gives curry its color and flavor. It's a natural spice remedy mainly due to the fact it contains the compound curcumin, an antioxidant. Turmeric can  help relieve indigestion, ulcers, upset stomach, psoriasis, and certain cancers.

Cloves

Cloves are another natural way to seek relief from pain. It comes in many forms from whole, ground up, powder, capsules, or as an oil. Cloves can be used in meat dishes, cooking rice, or in some of your favorite pie recipes. Cloves have been shown to help reduce headache pain, arthritic inflammation, and tooth pain.

If you're looking into treating the pain(s) you feel the natural way, then talk it over with your local chiropractor to hear some of the tips and suggestions they have to offer. Also, when you're feeling pain in your back, neck, and joints, they can help with those too.
