Why Your Weight Loss Plan is Stalling Out

By Genevieve Cunningham

Losing weight is never easy. We always hope it's going to be easy. We hope that the weight will fall off without much effort. We hope for an easy transition into a healthier life, but the truth is that anything that's worth it requires effort. But perhaps what's so frustrating about losing weight is that we work and work and work toward our goals, and yet it sometimes feels like we're getting nowhere! If this is you, don't lose hope. Take a look at these reasons why your weight loss has stalled so that you can beat the problem and get back on track.

You've Gone Overboard on Restriction

Losing weight almost always requires a little bit of restriction. We generally have to cut back on calories or lower the number of sweets that we eat on a regular basis. But if we are too restrictive, the weight loss process can actually backfire. Too few calories can cause your body to rebel, which makes it hold on to the weight instead of dropping it. Incredibly restricted eating can also lead to binge eating, which makes it more difficult to maintain a proper calorie intake. If you seem to have stalled in your weight loss process, take a look at whether or not you're being too restrictive in your diet. Be smart about your diet, but leave a little wiggle room for occasional treats and imperfections.

You're Healthier Than You Think

Some people who are trying to lose weight definitely need to do so in order to better their health. But not everyone actually needs to drop pounds. Some who are on the weight loss bandwagon are simply trying to lose vanity pounds. They may hold a extra few pounds, but this is not actually detrimental to their health, and their body knows it. In these cases, it may not be necessary to lose weight. You may be healthier than you think, and instead of working toward weight loss, working toward better health may be the more effective option.

You Aren't Getting Enough Sleep

It is incredibly difficult to improve your body if it's not getting enough rest. Sleep allows the body to heal and grow and improve itself. If you're not getting sleep, it makes everything that you do much more difficult. You have less concentration and less energy. And when it comes to weight loss, you'll have much less success. If your weight loss has stalled, consider reevaluating your sleeping habits. If your rest is suffering, focus on this aspect of your health, and you may find that the weight drops automatically.

Weight loss loss problems are going to happen. We're going to hit plateaus, and we're going to stall out on occasion. But if you have been stalling for a while, you may be looking for an answer. Take a look to see if any of these issues are a part of your life. If they are, you may have found your culprit. Make some adjustments, be proactive about your health, and get in the best shape of your life for the rest of your life.
