3 Dirty Habits That You Should Quit Now

By Genevieve Cunningham

Everyone has habits. Some of our habits are created on purpose -- brushing our teeth, taking showers, and waking up at a certain time every day. Other habits are created by default. Maybe you twirl your hair when you're nervous or crack your knuckles randomly. Most of the time, even these kinds of habits are relatively harmless. But what happens when you have unhealthy habits? Dirty habits? Habits that are truly detrimental to your well-being? You have to stop! If you are guilty of maintaining some bad habits, take a look at these three you should stop right now.

Smoking or Vaping

Smoking has been on the decline for a few years now. Unfortunately, vaping seems to be quickly taking its place. While most already know the dangers of smoking -- addiction, tar in the lungs, and lung cancer -- there is less information available regarding vaping. But there are two things for sure. Because vape juice contains nicotine, it's highly addictive. And most doctors agree that vaping is still damaging to the lungs, though they're not sure to what extent just yet. If either of these is a part of your life, it's time to get a handle on them and stop for good.

Skipping the Hand Washing

If hand washing isn't a habit for you, it's time to focus on making it a thing. You should be washing your hands multiple times per day -- at the very least after each trip to the restroom. But you should also wash your hands after sneezing or coughing, after touching contaminated objects, and before cooking and eating. This habit can help you avoid germs and protect you from excessive illness.

Excessive Caffeine or Alcohol Consumption

It's OK to drink alcohol and caffeine. But when either of these becomes excessive, it's dangerous for your body. Too much alcohol is hard on the liver and can lead to serious destruction of this organ. Caffeine can be exceptionally hard on the heart, leading to heart attacks in extreme cases. If you want to consume these products, fine. But do so sparingly to keep your health in good condition.

Everyone has a few habits that they're not especially proud of. But if your habits are damaging to your health, then it's time to make changes. Don't let these habits drag you or your health down. Keep them out of your life and enjoy the better quality of life that comes with their removal.
