How a Routine Can Benefit Your Health

By Rachel Shouse

There are a multitude of reasons why you should have a stable routine. Not that it has to be cut and dry and inflexible. Life is going to happen and some days, things are going to be out of whack. Routines help prevent those stressful scenarios and also help give you peace by knowing things are taken care of. Routines can help benefit your mental health, your physical health, and even your diet.

How a Routine Can Benefit Your Mental Health

Everyone is going to feel stress at some point in their lives. The important thing to remember is that struggles are temporary and if it isn't going to matter when you're on your deathbed, then it's not worth stressing over. In order to help prevent some of those situations you could implement routines in the areas of your life that you feel the most stressed.

Your stress could come from home, work, relationships, etc. It really depends on the person, but creating a routine helps ensure that you're tackling these problems on a regular basis and will gradually become less stressful. It will take time, as doctors say that it takes three months to cement a routine in.

How Your Physical Health is Affected by Your Habits

It's not easy to break habits and it's rather difficult to make healthy ones sometimes. Motivating yourself to exercise doesn't always feel possible. If you can, try to focus on the benefits you're going to reap as you go on this journey.

Exercising for 3-5 hours per week is what is recommended by doctors. Breaking that down throughout your week may help it feel less overwhelming. You could start walking on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. That'd give you a day's break in between.

How Your Routine Affects Your Diet

It's much easier to eat a healthy diet when you do a little bit of extra work. Making this a habit though will benefit you for as long as you make your own meals. Being in the habit of putting certain healthy items on your grocery list, prepping them to eat, and reaching for those snacks can be beneficial to other areas of your life as well.

Prepping your own food can also save you money, as you pay for convenience. Those pre cut watermelon containers at the store cost much more than if you were to buy a watermelon and cut it up yourself. Same goes for other fruits and vegetables.

As you can see, there are many reasons why you need to maintain or implement healthy routines in your life and home. Staying focused and completing your routines will help you feel less stress and more peace.
