How to Survive and Savor Holiday Flurries

By Sandy Schroeder

When holiday flurries of excitement swirl in, everything moves faster. The volume goes up, and reasonable responses sometimes fly right out the window.  Now you face the usual holiday dilemma. You want everything to be wonderful, but you really may need some help to survive.

This may be the year to outsmart everyone by gearing up before the swirl hits. Visit The Joint Chiropractic clinic near you for a tune-up and invite your spouse to join you. More and more people are discovering chiropractic’s unique blend of wellness benefits.

Patients often feel more energy, a clearer mental focus, better sleep, improved digestion, and better metabolism. Those are the qualities that may save the day for you and your family during the holidays.

Tackling the Holidays

As you move into the holidays, start with expectations, but keep them low key. Bring your memories, but be open to the moment.

Don’t Over Plan or Over Commit - Too much change in routine generates stress. Traveling, eating, staying up late, followed by even more shopping, can make everybody cranky.

Be Flexible - Make time for family reunions, and accept them as a unique part of the season. Say thank you to one another for the warmth and friendship everyone brings to the table, and let imperfections be.

Remember to Play – When you were a kid, holidays may have been full of music, games and surprises. Recapture that energy and spirit with your kids, helping them shape their own special memories.

Create Gifts of Friendship - Gifts are way more fun when they come from the heart. Kids can help bake breads or make cookies. They can also create handmade gifts from arts and crafts.  Invite your family and friends to remember special people and treasured times. Memory notes can be posted on the mantel in the midst of ribbons and greenery, or pictures can fill a memory wreath.

Reach Out to Help Others - Visit senior care facilities or community hospitals.  Take your kids, bringing cookies and Christmas carols. You will be brightening the day for people who are often alone, and you will be teaching your kids the pleasure of helping others.

Cook, Bake, Celebrate - Plan a buffet filled with goodies from everyone in the family. Pink pudding, roasted turkey with stuffing, sweet potato pie or fudge marble cake may all show up on the holiday table.

If this sounds like a great way to survive the holidays, get started now at The Joint Chiropractic clinic near you. The Joint has an affordable care program that eliminates the need for insurance. Extended evening and weekend hours are available, and no appointments are needed.
