5 Tips for Being Less Anxious and Tired
By Chris Brown
We all have those days where we feel burnt out, stressed, and unable to fully awake. However, when those days start multiplying, all aspects of your life can become affected. Being constantly tired and at your wit's end doesn't have to be a lifestyle.
Improve Your Day
Renew yourself with these five tips for being a more energetic and less anxious human throughout the day.
Reduce caffeine consumption - Counterintuitively, that afternoon cup of coffee, while providing improved energy in the short-term, can cause damage to your sleep cycle at night. This causes you to wake more tired the following day, forcing a repeat in the cycle of caffeine consumption. Additionally, too much caffeine can increase heart rate and induce anxiety.
Learn to forgive - Those life grudges, even justified ones, are sapping the life energy from you daily. Negative thoughts, like those associated with ruminating on unforgiven deeds, take energy, increase your stress levels, and contribute to your tired anger. So start forgiving others and bring yourself to a more positive, energetic state.
Move your body about - We often become so caught up in work and the latest episode of Yellowstone that we forget to perform the most crucial aspect of maintaining our wellbeing as humans: moving about. Our collective movement deprivation is so extreme that even walking up and down a set of stairs for 10 minutes can give you the energy of four ounces of coffee (without the crash or sleep problems).
Express your stresses in a journal or by telling others - Simply expressing your daily stresses, by telling a friend or writing them down in a journal, can dramatically reduce your anxiety by symbolically releasing your inner problems. Evidence has shown that journal writing and talking about your problems helps one process and problem solve events, which means less energy spent worrying and more energy spent on positively resolving the bad situation.
Breathe correctly - Yes, there is a right and a wrong way to breathe and it can make all the difference with your daily exhaustion-inducing anxiety. Practicing breathing exercises is a great way to learn the slow and deep breathing that reduces anxiety and promotes the para-sympathetic nervous system.
With these five tips, even the most neurotic stress-ball of a person can be on their way to alert and anxiety-free days. The benefits of which can mean a better overall life with happier relationships and greater career success.
