Let Low Vision Awareness Boost Your Eye Health

By Brandi Goodman

Now is a great time to familiarize yourself with common eye struggles and discover ways that you can boost your eye health promptly. Many people experience vision problems in one form or another. Whether it's some simple eye strain or fatigue, or you have a worsening problem, boosting your eye health can help, which is why February is recognized as Low Vision Awareness Month -- to draw attention to this important issue.

Eat Eye-Healthy Foods

Certain foods are more beneficial for your eye health. Many fruits and vegetables fall into this category due to the important vitamins they possess. Carrots have long been endorsed as the food to eat for better vision because they have so much Vitamin A and beta carotene. Broccoli, sweet potato, spinach, strawberries, and red peppers should be added to the list as well.

Exercise Regularly

Exercise may not seem like it would do anything for your eyes. If you have excess sugar in your bloodstream, however, then your retinas can be affected. It's important that you exercise regularly and keep your sugar levels in check so you don't develop a disease that can affect your eyesight significantly, such as diabetes.

Wear Sunglasses More Often

Lots of people put on sunglasses when they're outside during the summer months. The fact is, you should be wearing sunglasses all year-round. Any time the sun is out, whether it's cold outside or not, sunglasses should be utilized as a way to keep your eyes safe. The sun's harmful rays can do a lot of damage to your skin and eyes, so it's always best to keep them protected.

Stop Spending So Much Time on Devices

Technology-capable devices have grown exponentially over the years. Now, people are often spending far too much time looking at TV screens, computers, tablets, and smartphones. Be sure to change your settings at the very least so the full range of blue light is not emitted. It can quickly cause vision problems and make your eyes dry out if you're looking at it often. Stop spending so much time on these devices, and do activities that don't strain your eyes instead.

Keep your vision in the best shape possible with these tips in mind. Lots of people begin to experience a loss in vision as they age. Doing what you can to keep your eyesight protected can help you enjoy more time with good sight. You can also take vitamins if you need an extra boost in eye health - or health in general.
