Dr. Berta Jabavu became part of The Joint Chiropractic family of local healthcare providers in 2019 when she arrived at the Camp Creek clinic location. She joined the Decatur clinic in 2020.
A graduate of Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah with a bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation science, she received her doctorate of chiropractic from National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Ill.
Kibo, as she prefers to be called, says the thing she likes most about being in the chiropractic field is using her hands to help people get out of pain and move better. “I love helping to decrease the opioid crisis one patient at a time,” she says.
Raised in East Africa -- in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania -- Kibo worked previously in Atlanta. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, reading, and sewing and crocheting.
Her first-hand experience led her down the chiropractic path. “One day while in a naturopathic medicine program at NUHS, I had a severe headache that would not go away,” she says. “I was advised to get adjusted by one of our chiropractic professors. I did, and the headache went away instantly. After that, I decided to switch programs to become a chiropractor.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Kibo says the one thing she always has in her kitchen refrigerator is hard boiled eggs. “They are full of proteins and vitamins, such as Vitamin D, some B vitamins, selenium,” she explains. “Eggs give you energy, and keep you full and satisfied, thus decreasing your cravings and overeating.”
If she could bring together any four people from history to the dinner party of her dreams, she would include Daniel David Palmer, the founder of chiropractic, and his son BJ Palmer, the developer of chiropractic. Also included would be South African President Nelson Mandela and Tanzanian musician Diamond Platnumz. “I would sit and listen to these great minds converse to find out what motivated them to keep moving forward with their plans, even though in the case of Mandela he was jailed for his belief, while Diamond is singing in the background,” Kibo says. “Finally, I would use it as an opportunity to say thank you to the Palmers; it’s because of them I can do what I love, which is being a chiropractor.”
