Why You Need to Add a Salad to Your Dinner
By Genevieve Cunningham
When eating out at a restaurant, we're often faced with the choice of adding a salad to our meal. In a lot of these situations, we choose the veggie packed side. Somehow, it's the perfect complement to our main dish. And yet, when dining at home, we skip the greens altogether. Why? Whether it's out of convenience or laziness or simple lack of thought, it may be time to take our restaurant eating habits home. If you're not doing it already, take a look at these reasons why eating a salad with your meal is a great idea.
It’s Filling
Salads are very low calorie, and yet, they’re very filling to the stomach. If you can, try eating your salad just before your main course. Because it fills your stomach, it may cause you to eat less of your main dish, which means fewer calories overall. And for anyone looking to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight, consuming fewer calories is important. Enjoying a salad at dinner every night is a great way to keep caloric intake under control and your weight right where you want it.
It’s Full of Nutrients
If you make your salad the right way, it will be incredibly nutritionally dense. Lettuce, spinach, kale, tomatoes, carrots, cucumber, eggs … there are so many things that you can add to your salad to make it full of healthy nutrients without packing on the calories. Doing this is a great way to ensure your body is getting all of the vitamins and minerals that it needs in a simple manner. Various vitamins, fiber, protein, calcium, and a wide variety of other nutrients may be present in a big healthy salad for even better health.
It’s an Excellent Habit
A huge part of eating a healthy diet is making it a habit. If it’s our habit to eat a salad with every dinner, we’re making a great diet staple to take with us for an entire lifetime. It feeds our body, boosts our health, and creates a mindset for healthy eating. This choice, in and of itself, is an excellent way to begin a healthier menu and move your life down a healthier path on purpose.
Salads are so good for the body. They can also be delicious, and they are definitely a great choice to add to your nightly dinner menu. Make a salad a part of your normal diet, and you may find your health take a turn in a positive direction in no time at all.
