Good Workouts You Can Do in 30 Minutes or Less

By Genevieve Cunningham

Working out feels good. It builds muscles and improves mobility and boosts energy. It's such an important part of living a healthy life. So why do so many of us skip it? Why do we intend to work out, but then drive right past the gym on our way home from work? For many, it's all about time. You just don't have time to get in a really good workout, and if you're not going to break a sweat, you just don't want to waste your time. But what if you really could get in a good workout -- and all in 30 minutes or less?! If you're short on time, high on motivation, and eager to stay fit, take a look at these workouts that you can complete in less than half an hour.

Running

If you plan on running a marathon, you might need more than 30 minutes. But if you're just trying to improve health, then 30 minutes is plenty of time. That's enough time to run at least one mile, but more likely two. It's enough time to get in bleacher laps. It's enough time to do sprints that really burn your muscles. If you choose to actually run instead of jog, you can get in a fantastic workout in 30 minutes. If this sounds like something you can handle, pick up some good shoes and start stepping.

Intervals

Intervals are hard because there's so little rest time. And with less rest time, there's more workout time. Intervals consist of a certain set of exercises -- all timed, rest included. You'll set up your stations, watch your timer, and start working your way through. You can complete the stations as many times as you see fit, but most people can fit in at least two rounds in 30 minutes. Just make sure that you plan ahead. If everything is ready when you get there, you'll get even more time to burn your muscles and break a sweat.

Jumping

Jumping is so hard. We don't really jump much naturally. We do as children, but adults tend to avoid jumping when possible. Why? Besides the fact that we're heavier and jumping is harder, we just don't think about. But if you want a good workout, get in some jumps! Jump rope. Do frog jumps. Jump on a box and back down. Jumping will burn your legs like never before, and because it's an intense cardio workout, you'll also challenge your lungs and build stamina. If you want an incredible workout with very little in the way of equipment, jumping is it.

We've convinced ourselves that we need massive time to work out, but that's just not true! If we're prepared and efficient with our time and energy, we can get a great workout in just 30 minutes. Use these as a guide, and get in the best shape of your life in less time.
