3 Tips for Sticking to Your Healthy Diet
By Genevieve Cunningham
Food is good. Though food is something that we literally can't live without, most of us don't eat only because we have to; we eat because we love it and because it's delicious. Unfortunately, this love for food often gets us into trouble, especially around our waistlines! To combat weight gain, it's important to stick to a healthy diet. Unfortunately, there's something about healthy eating that just doesn't seem as appealing. It makes it incredibly difficult to stick with it. So how do you get past this problem? If you're interested in eating healthy and actually enjoying it, take a look at these tips to help break your bad habits and stick with a healthy eating plan starting now.
Be Realistic
Many people simply go into their new healthy diet with expectations that are way too high. You're not going to change your habits in one day. You're not going to change them in one week. Changing your diet and eating habits takes time. It takes one habit at a time -- over and over again. Set some realistic goals for yourself. Maybe today, you try not to eat dessert. Maybe tomorrow, you cut down your servings. Maybe the next day, you try to drink more water. The more realistic your goals, the easier they are to meet, and the more success you'll feel along the way.
Quit Your Guilty Pleasure First
For some people, the best approach is to cut back on the hardest habit first. Which food is your biggest and most wonderful guilty pleasure? Start by nixing this food from your diet. Why? Because if you can beat your favorite guilty pleasure, everything else becomes so much easier. It might take a long time to cut back. It might take months to fully rid yourself of this treat. But if you can make it happen, you'll feel so accomplished and motivated to keep going.
Eat on Schedule
Sometimes the problem isn't necessarily what we eat, but rather that we eat randomly. We don't eat on any kind of schedule. If you're starting a healthy eating plan, stick to a time schedule. It doesn't have to be extremely rigid, but following certain times helps you stick to a better plan overall. If you need something really easy to help you get started, start with a schedule first, and then work up to more difficult parts of healthy eating from there.
Eating a well balanced, healthy diet is a crucial aspect of living a healthy life. It also happens to be incredibly difficult for many people. The good news? It gets easier! Use these tips to get your healthy eating underway, and enjoy the better body and health that will follow quickly behind.
