Easy and Healthy Summer Living Tips

Summer is a really fun time of year. There's such a care-free attitude in the air, and activities and get togethers are in full bloom. It's also a time of year when we seem to let things slide. We stay up a little later than we should and hit the snooze a few more times. And we definitely relax about our health. A workout? No thanks, I'll just stay at the pool! But keeping track of your health in the summer is really important, and it can set the tone for the rest of the year. If you would like a little help managing your health this summer, take a look at these really easy tips to help you get moving in the right direction.

Choose Seasonal Fruits and Veggies

The summer is a good time to reduce your caloric intake. Why? Because the heat often makes us feel less hunger, and so cutting back becomes a bit easier. But it's also a great time to change your food choices. Choose seasonal foods -- melons, berries, and other light, juicy foods. Seasonal foods are delicious, and summer foods in particular are also low in calories. Eating the right foods can change everything about your health, so go all in with these summer foods for a shift in the right direction.

Protect Your Skin

Though it's important to protect your skin all summer long, the summer months are especially important. The sun is brighter and more direct, so the risk of burning is much greater. To protect the skin, you'll need to incorporate a few steps into your routine. First, make sure that you are applying plenty of sunscreen. It needs to be applied first thing in the morning, and then reapplied throughout the day. Second, you'll need to wear plenty of moisturizer. You can apply moisturizer in much the same manner as sunscreen, or you may be able to get a moisturizer combined with a sunscreen to make it even easier. Just make sure that this is a solid part of your routine, and you'll be much closer to protecting your skin.

Stick to a Routine

It's really easy to get off routine during the summer. Kids are out of school, summer activities are in full swing, and typical routines are no longer appealing. It's so tempting to stay up late with all of the fun. But when we do that, we invite exhaustion into our lives. And with exhaustion comes poor moods, poor health, and an ever-present need to catch up on rest. If you want to keep your health this summer, do your best to stay on routine. The more you keep your routine, the better health you'll keep through the season and through the remainder of the year. 

We like things to be easy, especially in the summer! While not all aspects of your health are easy, these tips are definitely low-stress and easy to add to the routine. Use them every day to create a healthier summer and a healthier body to last you the rest of the year.
