Fall Weight Loss Hacks for Busy People

By Rachel Carver

School has started. For many parents, this means juggling classes and fall events. Even if you do not have kids, fall often means a hectic work schedule and starting to prepare for the holidays.

Fall is a great time to get started on some healthier goals. No matter what this time of year looks like for you, here are some tips to create a healthier lifestyle.

Meal Prep

September gives us fewer grilling opportunities. Busier schedules also mean you'll need to become more proactive in planning your weekly meals.

Look at the calendar before you start your week. Identify the nights you will be able to cook, the nights you will need to order takeout, and the nights when you can eat something already prepared. Write down your meal ideas. Create your grocery list, and plan your store trip for Saturday or Sunday.

You can also use weekend time to roast vegetables and make grains for your upcoming meals. Crockpot meals are also great for busy families because they can cook while you are gone and be ready to serve when you get home.

Evaluate Your Movement

Maybe your busy fall schedule means you no longer have time for that morning run or evening walk. You can still find lots of ways to move during the day. Smaller bursts of movement -- such as multiple 10-minute walks -- offer similar health benefits as a long workout.

Set reminders to get up from your desk for movement every 1-2 hours. Cooler temperatures also make lunchtime walks more inviting, which can help with digestion. If you can no longer go to your evening yoga class, see if the studio has a morning class you can join instead.

Schedule Me Time

With so much going on, time for your own hobbies and interests can easily get replaced with activities and social obligations. This can lead to burnout and stress.

Schedule time for yourself into your calendar. It can be hard to do this, but make it just as important as the soccer game you will watch or the meeting you need to prepare for. Prioritizing your me time will help you relax and be ready to take on the rest of your busy life.

The Bottom Line

Remember you are only human. You will sometimes complete your morning workout, and other times you will sleep in. As your life gets busier, you need time to adjust to your new schedule. And you should always prioritize self-care. Being flexible with your health goals will make you much more likely to succeed.
