The Flu: 3 Tips to Prevent It
By Virginia Laird
Have you already begun to stress about the flu taking over your home this season? If you have ever experienced this virus, you know how devastating it can be for the entire family. While there is a vaccine released each year which can help deter the virus from harboring in your body, this solution may not be for you and your family. Each year, doctors and a plethora of healthcare professionals offer advice to patients which can help prevent the spread of the flu. These suggestions include:
- Workout routinely
- Wash your hands often
- Drink plenty of water
While there is nothing that anyone can do to completely prevent the virus from being an uninvited intruder in your home, following this advice can significantly reduce the chances you have from bringing this unwelcomed guest to your family.
Workout Routinely
Exercise plays an important role in keeping the body healthy. Routine workouts can help the body get rid of unwanted stress, burn calories, and provide a boost to the immune system. To help prevent taking the flu home with you this season, make sure to keep making time for your exercise. Don’t fret if you have no time to hit the gym, a brisk walk through your neighborhood can do wonders for the body and the fresh air will provide a boost to the immune system.
Wash Your Hands Often
The first line of defense against getting the flu or any other illness is to practice good hand washing. Many believe washing the hands after using the bathroom is enough. During flu season the hands need to be washed much more frequently. It is advised to wash your hands after using the restroom, being outside, being in large crowds, or any other time you may have been exposed to another’s germs.
Drink Plenty of Water
For the body to function properly and avoid getting ill, it is suggested to stay hydrated. This is best done by drinking plenty of water. It is recommended that you should drink as much as half of your weight in ounces daily to maintain proper hydration and optimal health. If you are not a lover of plain water, there are a variety of flavored waters and sports drinks which can help keep you hydrated.
Be proactive this flu season by taking the advice of those who have firsthand knowledge of dealing with the virus. Good luck and may the flu steer clear of your home this year!
