Reduce the Number of Toxins in Your Life

By Paul Rothbart

Chemicals are ever-present in our lives. They are in hygiene products, mattresses, food and beverage containers, pretty much everywhere. Many of these inorganic substances are toxins. They can cause serious health problems if used continuously. It is extremely important to your health and safety to know what is in anything that is a part of your daily life. Read labels and do research. You can also follow these tips to reduce the number of toxins in your life.

Put Plants in Your Home

Adding some green to a room brightens it up, creating a cheery atmosphere. Plants are also very good at purifying the air and removing toxins. Chemicals such as formaldehyde, benzene, xylene, and toluene, get into the home through cleaning products and synthetic textiles. Breathing them in is harmful. Plants will cleanse the air. Some of the best at performing this task are spider plants, English ivy, and dracaena.

Dump the Plastic for Glass

Plastic is one of the most potentially damaging materials there is, both to the environment and to our bodies. There is a large body of research that supports this. Switching to glass containers is the best way to combat the harmful effects of plastic. Glass is natural and one of the safest ways to store food and water.

Use Personal Care Products That Are Natural

Soap, shampoo, deodorant, and moisturizer are necessary for good health and hygiene. Many of these, and other personal care products contain chemicals that can hurt us over time. Check the labels and avoid the toxins phthalates, parabens, and formaldehyde. Research has linked these substances to health issues. Use products that are plant-based and organic. They do their job without causing harm.

Use Cleaning Products That Are Natural

Household cleaning products are notorious for containing toxins. These chemicals may be effective at cleaning, but they get on your skin and into the air and can cause a variety of health issues. There are many products on the market that work well and have only organic substance. Citrus extracts are especially effective, smell nice, and are completely safe. Spend some time finding the ones you like best. A clean home shouldn't come at the expense of your health.

Eat Organic Foods

Many foods are grown using chemical fertilizers and pest control substances. These are toxic and potentially very harmful. Organically grown foods cost more, but are worth the extra price in the peace of mind you will get knowing you are not putting poisons into your body. Farmers markets are great places to find organic foods. Ask the proprietor how the produce is grown.

The world is full of toxins. Some of them find their way into our lives. But you don't have to allow that. Follow these tips to reduce the number of toxins you come into contact with and enjoy better health.
