Camping Activities for the Entire Family
By Donna Stark
A friend of mine told me that National S'mores Day is coming up in August, and even though you don't need a national holiday to celebrate that delectable treat, I don't think there is a better way to embrace it than to head on out to your favorite campsite. So come on! Get off that couch and lace up your shoes. There's too much fun to be had while camping and those s'mores won't last for long!
Camping Activities for the Family
Some of the best family memories you can make involve the outdoors and you couldn't be more outdoors than when you head for the hills. So let's start planning this year's epic camping adventure. Here are some fun suggestions for family-friendly activities. Take a look.
Fishing
Start your mornings with some peace and quiet. If you are lucky enough to have a campsite near a lake or a stream, plan on going fishing as the sun is starting to rise. With any luck, you will be able to create some lasting memories ... and you may even be able to catch your evening's meal as well!
Hiking
After your morning haul is caught, it's time to head out for a family hike. Be sure to map the trail you are going to hike on and make sure the difficulty level is suitable for all family members. While you are on your hike, challenge everyone to a scavenger hunt. You may be surprised with what you can find.
Mountain Biking
If your campsite has trails that you can ride on, don't forget to bring your bikes! Mountain biking can be an exhilarating sport for the daredevils in the family or an enjoyable afternoon riding through the trees for everyone else. But just like hiking, make sure you are familiar with the trail before you head out. You don't want any accidents to happen!
S'mores Making
Remember the real reason for this camping trip? That's right! It's time to make some s'mores. Make sure you pack all of the ingredients and bring some chairs for the campfire. Start the night with some ghost stories, stargaze for a bit, and then get eating! Yum!
The Joy of Camping
Fresh air, good company, and a sweet treat. Whether you intentionally head out to celebrate National S'mores Day or you decide to camp for other reasons, you can't go wrong with spending time with those you love in the great outdoors!
