""Virgin Pulse"" Has Fresh Take on Wellness Promotion
As we become more aware of workplace wellness’s importance in all professional sectors, there is an increased effort to bring about positive health outcomes in workers and promote well-being in many different professional environments. We are now even seeing companies that are specializing in the wellness space, which are developing new methods or workplace wellness promotion as the core strategy of the company itself.
This is exactly the case with Virgin Pulse. As a branch of Richard Branson’s Virgin Group, which has become a massive entity in the worldwide scope of business, Virgin Pulse is dedicated to reforming the wellness landscape in this country with a variety of new initiatives.
Mainly, Virgin Pulse values adherence. Rather than having employees work towards seemingly hollow goals that may not make a difference in their overall health outcomes, Virgin Pulse is trying to get employees to set true goals for their health and monitor their progress. Rather than just maintaining new health habits for a week or two here and there, Virgin Pulse is urging employees to form “meaningful habits” that will be carried on throughout an employee’s life.
How are they doing this? Simply put, technology. With the use of wearable devices, Virgin Pulse is forming a technological component to wellness that is seen recreationally, but not necessarily professionally. With the use of wearable devices, the company’s wellness monitoring data is all stored in one place once employees upload their data. This allows for stringent analysis in employee health behaviors, what can be improved, what can be scaled back, and much more insight that would not be attainable on simple questionnaires.
Recently, Virgin announced a $92 million appropriation of funding into Virgin Pulse. This signifies serious investment in the wellness space on the part of one of the world’s largest businesses in existence.
