Family Fun and Fitness for Summer
Family comes first. This is probably something that you’ve heard before, and most likely you also agree with. Family is important. They are the people that we share and experience life with. They are our support, comfort, and encouragers. Because of how much we love our families, we definitely want what is best for them. When it comes to health, most of us feel the same way. We want our families to be healthy. The hard part is encouraging your family to get up and get moving. If you want to get your family moving in the right direction, but aren’t sure where to start, check out these family fitness tips that are great to begin this summer.
Take Advantage of the Weather
Even though it can get pretty hot in some places, summer is the optimal time to get outdoors. Use the weather to your advantage. Take this opportunity to take your family to the lake, local pool, or on a hike. Set up some games like soccer, football, or basketball to enjoy in the evenings when it cools off. The most important part? Plan for outdoor activities. There are very few outdoor activities that require sitting still. Chances are, you and your family will be up and moving in no time.
Use Your Time Wisely
Summer is the time when kids are out of school and many people are able to take a little time off of work. Use this time wisely. Instead of staying in all day playing video games, take a trip together. Preferably, take a trip to a location where there is movement and exercise involved. If you want to take a vacation, great! Go somewhere that has a hiking trail or a place to ride bikes together. Go somewhere that you can all go canoeing or whitewater rafting. Choose somewhere that has activity. As tempting as it is to lay on the beach (or couch!) all summer, use your together time wisely and get moving.
Pick Up an Exercise Routine
Why not use the summer to introduce some family exercise? Join a class or gym as a family and make a habit of going. Summer is a great time to start a new habit. Your kids won’t have to worry about getting up early, and it’ll be a good time to get used to doing something different and new. If you can’t find a class that everyone likes, split up or do some sort of exercise that you can all enjoy and benefit from. Swimming, walking, and biking are 3 exercises that most people enjoy and can still gain the benefits.
Family really does come first, so go ahead and put them at the top of your list. Help your entire family get fit and strong so that you can enjoy them for years to come. Use these tips to get your family motivated and moving this summer.
