Doing Everything for Health May Include Setting Temp
By Tom Herrin
Most people who are trying to improve health will look for those things that have been successful for others. It is always a good feeling to follow in someone else's footsteps once they have had a good experience. If that does not work, they are generally faced with the choice either trying something else or giving up. Many choose the latter as the path of least resistance. As people who do research on improving quality of life for others discover new ways to accomplish this, they make the information available. In recent years, some have done some of this research on how temperature may affect people.
Set a Sleep Thermostat
When people can't get any kind of quality sleep, it can be pretty stressful. Struggling to remain awake during the day only to have the same kind of issues the next night can drain energy and impede alertness. Some have found that there may be a temperature at which people can sleep best. This range is believed to be 65-72 degrees with the prime temp being 68. This may bring back memories to many who have had the opportunity to sleep under heavy covers in cold seasons. Apparently Rapid Eye Movement may be compromised when the temperatures are too warm, and this is an essential part of the sleep cycle.
Losing Weight May Get a Boost by Some Temps
The effort to lose weight can be one that is ongoing, and depressing, for many individuals. Dieting and/or exercising with little or no progress can feel like walking the wrong direction on an escalator for some. The tendency to give up is always over the next obstacle. The range that is best for this has been narrowed down to 64-67 degrees. One may have the feeling that there must be something to this as narrow as it is. Setting the thermostat at this level for a time may be an easy way of testing it.
Be Bold and Try Something
I have had problems with sleeping over the years. It seemed that if I tried to go to bed early, I would wake up and stay awake for hours. At other times, I would barely be able to go to sleep. In these times, I would wake up feeling every bit as tired, if not more, than when I went to bed. I now turn down my thermostat each night before I go to bed. For the most part, I am able to sleep much better, and if I wake up in the night, I am able to go back to sleep quickly.
