Healthy Habits to Stay Young

By Donna Stark

There aren't too many people who look forward to getting old. In fact, there is an entire industry dedicated to keeping everyone looking and feeling as young as can be. From lotions to pills to hair transplants to cosmetic surgeries, if changes to your appearance are what you are looking for, they're pretty easy to find. But if you want to win the battle against Father Time, you don't necessarily need to spend your hard-earned dollars on products and procedures. Instead, all you have to do is change your routine! Take a look at some of the healthy habits that will help keep you young.

Move More

A sedentary lifestyle is not only hazardous to your health, it's also one of the quickest ways to age your body, so get moving! Excessive sitting can lead to an increased risk of serious medical conditions such as heart disease, cancer, obesity, diabetes, and deep-vein thrombosis. Sitting can also cause joint stiffness and pain, and if there is anything that makes you appear to be older than you are, it's the inability to move well.

It is critical that you incorporate more movement throughout your days. An easy way to do this is to remember the number 30. Try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day and get out of your chair to move every 30 minutes during the day.

Prioritize Sleep

Aging doesn't only occur on the outside of our bodies. Your insides are getting old too! And unfortunately, sleep deprivation can speed up that process. Poor or insufficient sleep can cause a person's cells to age quicker, and that can lead to significant health issues down the road.

It's vital that you do everything you can to improve your sleep because that's the time your body uses to restore, repair, and rejuvenate itself. If you have sleep issues that can't seem to be fixed, ask your doctor or chiropractor for advice!

Eat Less Sugar

Did you know that those sweets you enjoy so much could be making you age faster? It's true! A diet high in sugar can lead to diabetes, and although diabetes is bad enough on its own, it can also lead to further health problems and appearance issues that make the body look and feel older than it is. Diets high in sugar have also been linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer's.

You can feel better and live a healthier life by reducing the amount of sugar in your diet. Simple ways to do so would be to eliminate sweets and sodas and cut back on the number of times you eat out.

Staying Young

Forget the magic creams and lotions. Make a real impact on your overall health, wellness, and appearance by incorporating healthy habits into your daily lifestyle!
