Chiropractic Care Can Help Your Adolescent Child

By Paul Rothbart

Adolescence is a tricky part of life. It's one of the major transitional periods and filled with growing pains, both figurative and literal. As a parent, you may feel like you've lost your adorable little child. You want to help, but is there anything you can do except wait for them to emerge as adults? There are, of course, many things you can do for your teenager, difficult as some of them might be. One thing you may not have considered is taking them to a chiropractor. Chiropractic care is not just for old folks and bad backs. There are several ways it can benefit an adolescent.

Adolescents Tend to Be Active

The teen years are usually among the most active of anyone's life. Many adolescents participate in organized sports, both in and out of school. Other physical activities such as biking, riding scooters, and skateboarding are also popular with teens. There's music, including marching band, clubs, and a whole host of other activities. Then there's lugging a backpack loaded with heavy books back and forth to school each day. If anyone could benefit from regular chiropractic exams and adjustments, it's teenagers.

It's a Stressful Time

Adulthood is loaded with stress, but so is adolescence. The source is different but it is no less painful or harmful dealing with the social hierarchies of high school, dating, trying to pass tests and classes, and thinking about the future. Regular chiropractic care has been known to help some people manage their anxiety and stress better. A properly adjusted spine reduces the risk of tension headaches which are often connected to stress. Being a teenager isn't easy. A chiropractor may help ease the stress.

Sleep Is Important

Sleep is important at any age, but especially so for growing and changing bodies. Many adolescents don't get enough sleep. They tend to stay up late, especially on the weekends and the stress can make it difficult to fall and stay asleep. Many chiropractic patients find that they sleep better when making regular visits. A properly adjusted body may feel considerably less pain, making it easier to get comfortable and fall asleep. With better stress management, staying asleep until morning becomes easier. Your teenager needs sleep. Chiropractic care may be one of the best ways to help provide that.

The adolescent years are tough and filled with many obstacles. You want the best for your children. Consider taking your teen for a visit to The Joint Chiropractic. No appointment is needed. You may find that seeing a chiropractor helps your teenage child along the path to healthy adulthood.
