What Passionate People Can Teach Us

By Sandy Schroeder

Would you say you are a passionate person?  Do you jump out of bed in the morning, eager to start your day? I have always believed people who found something to do that they loved never had to work another day. Those people do get up every morning, eager to get started. They have a passion for their work.

That kind of passion can be instructive for all of us. Sometimes we can learn from it as we see how it works.  Travis Bradberry, co-founder of TalentSmart, an agency that services Fortune500 companies, suggests the way to understand passion is to see how passionate people are different.

Passionate People Stay Focused - I know some very talented people who operate this way. They do everything else, like we all do, but at 3 a.m. they may wake up with a solution to their current problem. Their mind was working on the problem the whole time. They do not do this because it is a must. They do this because they are so intrigued with what they are doing.

Time Never Gets Wasted – Passionate people seldom just sit around. If they have free time, they devote it to their passion, or they find others who feel the same way and talk about their projects.

The Positive Stays In View – Passionate people are always looking ahead. They never doubt. They just keep moving forward, enjoying every minute of the journey.

Risks Will Be Taken – Passionate people are seldom conservative investors. Because they believe in what they are doing, they are willing to invest time, energy and capital.

Full Speed Ahead – Passionate people are either going 90 miles per hour, or they are stopped. This can mean a total win or an incredible crash.

Contagious Appeal – If you have friends who are passionate, you probably know how much fun and how persuasive they can be. Whatever they are doing just seems more interesting.

Life and Work Blend – Truly passionate people do not just turn off their work at 5 p.m. Work and life swirl together. They share their efforts with like-minded friends, talk about it non-stop, and often convert others by their sheer enthusiasm.

Energy Abounds – Passionate people usually seem to have more energy than most. Probably because they are so pleased by their projects, everything really may be easier. Worry, tension and self-doubts seldom get in the way.

We can all learn from passionate people. That total focus, non-stop push, and complete commitment really can work just about anywhere. We just have to remember to do it.
