What Happens When You Don't Drink Water?
By Sara Butler
Drinking plenty of water each day is one of the things that goes without saying that you must do for your health and wellness. Given the fact that the human body is about 60 percent water, it's kind of a big deal. But there are still some who don't drink enough water each day. Have you ever wondered what happens to your body if you're one of those who don't drink enough? Here are a few things you may want to be aware of to encourage you to drink more water each day.
Low Energy
If you feel sluggish or as if you need a nap in the afternoon, it may simply be because you're dehydrated. Even being slightly dehydrated can drain your energy and may impact your daily performance. Instead of reaching for a cup of coffee or another caffeinated beverage, try drinking a glass of water to see if it makes a difference when you're feeling tired.
Problems With Concentration
If you feel you're losing focus, then it might be because you're not drinking enough water. Your brain is made up of even more water than the rest of you, a whopping 80 percent! So being dehydrated can make your brain function tank, making focus and concentration a problem. Even slight dehydration can do it, so drink water if you're having trouble coming up with your next great idea.
You Get Irritable
People often can identify that they're feeling hangry, but what about irritation from lack of irrigation? OK, that may not have the same ring to it as hangry, but you can get a lot crankier if you're not drinking enough water. Dehydration has been found to impact moods, even if only a little dehydrated.
You're Hungry
Speaking of being hangry, people often confuse feelings of thirst with feelings of hunger. If your stomach is growling, then you may simply assume it's due to being hungry when it actually might be that you're thirsty. To find out which it is, drink a glass of water and wait 15 or 20 minutes. If it's actual hunger, then you'll still be hungry when the time is up.
Your Skin Suffers
If you want glowing, youthful skin, forget the expensive creams and treatments and simply have a glass of water! Water helps to plump your skin up. Without enough of it, your skin can look more wrinkled and duller. If you want to improve your skin, then make sure to drink enough water each day!
