Creative Activities May Support Good Health

By Tom Herrin

When it counts, some of us do what we have to do to have better health.  Some of us, however, seem to be willing to take our chances rather than participate in some physical activity that we find to be boring and methodical.  While some people enjoy having a set routine of exercises, others prefer much more variety.  As a result, they adopt a sedentary lifestyle.  For those individuals, it is possible to get some valuable exercise as they have fun with more creative kinds of activities.  There are far more than you might be aware of.

Try a Dance Class

If you have ever done much dancing, you know how much fun it can be and how much of a workout you can get doing so.  There are all kinds of dance classes available, so your choices may be wide open.  When you participate in one, you will surely get tired.  You may well want to try to do some of it at home, so this can provide even more exercise a couple of days per week.  I enjoy dancing and do so whenever I get the opportunity.  Dancing for only 15 or 20 minutes can do a lot more than you might think.

Go Take a Hike

You have probably done some kind of hiking in the past, though it may not have been very organized.  Many people find hiking to be a great way to get away and enjoy the outdoors.  The only real criteria is to have the right kind of clothing, especially shoes.  You should be sure to start at a slow pace and avoid going too far.  Having enough water can be a pretty good challenge, so be sure to take a container that will hold a fair amount.  Knowing what to expect from the weather is also important.  If you get into hiking, you can improve your overall conditioning and see some good natural sights at the same time.

Swimming Is Always a Good Activity

With the availability of pools today, swimming can be done almost anytime.  If you enjoy swimming, it can be a good exercise that is easy on the joints and builds endurance.  Many people are able to participate in swimming well into older ages.  It is also something you can do in groups or individually, provided there is someone around when you are doing so.  You should never swim alone.
