Keeping Your Immune System Strong: These Tips Work!
By Genevieve Cunningham
It's not quite fall yet, but the cool winds are on their way. And if we're being honest, most of us can't wait for the first chilly night or the first morning that requires a sweater. There's something about the changing seasons that just feels good! Of course, not everything about the fall is good. This time of year also comes with an influx of illness -- colds, the flu, stomach bugs. Yuck! If you're interested in avoiding as much illness as possible, take a look at these tips for boosting your immune system starting now and through the season ahead.
Get More Sleep
Your immune system is not going to function at its best without adequate sleep. Lack of sleep leads to fatigue -- but then it spirals into more illness, a weaker body, and a mind that can't focus. To get more sleep, you just have to make it a priority. No late night Netflix binges. No late afternoon coffee. Make sleep important, and it will pay off in your health.
Watch Your Diet
Your diet affects everything. It affects your weight. It affects your energy. And it definitely affects your immune system. If you want the immune system to be strong, you have to fill your body with healthy food -- water, fruit, vegetables, etc. Skip the junk as much as you can. Skip the soda. The healthier you make your diet, the better you're going to feel, and the better your body is going to function long-term.
Move
We were not meant to be sedentary. Our bodies were meant to move! Unfortunately with our modern conveniences, we've become incredibly still in everyday life. If you're not moving, you're far more susceptible to weight gain, injury, and illness. It's time to join a gym and get moving. It's time to make activity normal again. You can walk, run, stretch, lift -- do whatever feels good to your body, and do it on a regular basis.
If you're going to make it through the fall and winter without illness, you're definitely going to need a strong immune system. This time of year is so fun! Don't miss out because of illness. Use these tips to start boosting your immune system right now, and you might just make it through the rest of the year with your good health intact.
