Quickly Prep Healthy Meals With These Tips

By Rachel Carver

Preparing meals in advance is a great way for busy people to make the most of their time. Knowing exactly what you will eat for dinner can also keep you on track with your weight loss goals.

If you are new to meal prep, you can easily become overwhelmed by all of the planning. But remember you do not have to prep every meal in advance. The point of meal prepping is to make your life easier, not harder. So start small and establish meal prepping methods that work for you.

Read on for some meal prepping tips to consider as you get started.

Create a Meal Plan

Before you do anything, you need a meal plan. Pick the recipes you want to prepare. This will make grocery shopping and organizing your supplies easier.

Look at your weekly calendar. Determine the meals you will prep in advance, the amount of time you have to cook each day, and your nutritional goals for each meal. Maybe you want some simple, satisfying breakfasts that make perfect post-workout meals such as yogurt or smoothies. Your lunches might be a meal with lean protein and veggies and split into multiple containers you can heat and eat at your desk.

Evaluate Your Equipment

Proper equipment is an important part of meal prep. Make sure you have a sharp knife, proper storage containers, and a set of cutting boards. Purchase some bins, baskets, and glass Mason jars for your fridge. You want all of your items to be organized so you can find them quickly.

Create Some Space

If your fridge is small, finding the space you need can be challenging. This is why only buying what you need is beneficial. Having a list and sticking to it also saves you money. Before you purchase your groceries, clean out your fridge to make sure last week's takeout has been removed.

Clear some time in your schedule to meal prep. It does not need to take all day, but you need some time to shop, wash, and cook food. Some people meal prep on Sundays. Others pick an evening during the week. You can also decide to prep two-three days at a time instead of an entire week of meals.

Measure Your Food

Meal prepping helps you portion your food before you eat it. This prevents overeating. Preparing a meal in advance can save you time as well as calories. Prep your food with measuring cups and spoons to give yourself a visual of proper serving sizes.

Meal prepping can save you time, but it should not be difficult. The key is to enjoy tasty meals and still have time for the rest of your hectic schedule, or even a few spare moments to relax after dinner!
