5 Healthy Ways to Start Your Day
By Brandi Goodman
Getting right out of bed in the morning, getting dressed, and heading straight out the door is never the routine you should follow. You need to allow yourself the proper time to wake up, get energized, and really prepare for the day ahead. With some healthy ways to start your day, you'll have a better mindset going forward to ensure everything you want can get accomplished.
Stretch
Jumping straight out of bed may not even be possible the older you get. You might find yourself unsteady on your feet or with aches that don't allow you to move so freely. It's important to start stretching before you even step foot out of bed in the morning so you can loosen your joints and prepare your body for the movements to come. A more flexible body is a more able body.
Drink a Glass of Water
Get your organs working and your brain operating with a glass of water. It allows for proper circulation and helps to hydrate your body so you're feeling good. Drinking a full glass can also help you with hunger, so you're less likely to overindulge on a large meal.
Eat a Nutritious and Filling Breakfast
You do need to eat something in the morning, even with a glass of water in your system. Too many people skip breakfast altogether or run out the door with a ready-made snack. Neither of these options are ideal. You need to start your day with a nutritious and filling breakfast that will energize your mind and body and help you make it through until lunchtime.
Wash Your Face
Jumping in the shower can really help wake you up in the morning, but not everyone has the time. Some people even prefer a before-bed shower that helps to relax them and get them ready for sleep. Instead of a morning shower, at least heading to the sink to wash your face should be on the agenda. It can give you the wake-up call you need while also pampering your skin and preparing it for the day ahead.
Make Your Bed
Starting your day by accomplishing a simple task such as making your bed can really help set the day's tone. You'll feel proud of yourself for getting something done, and have one less stressor on your plate. Coming home to an unmade bed can make the room feel cluttered and disorganized. If a simple chore in the morning can help to de-stress your mind and add some organization to your day, then why not just take the two minutes (if that) and get it done?
Your ideal morning routine may differ from the next person's, but you should still be using a combination of these methods to get your day started. Eating right and stretching out are particularly important if you want a flexible body and prepared mind that are ready to take on the day's activities.
