Sit in the Stands Sans Back Pain

By Brandi Goodman

Whether you're attending a game for your favorite team or watching your child play, sitting in the stands for even a little while can wreak havoc on your back. Sit for hours, and you're even more likely to end up heading home with an aching body. Sit in the stands sans back pain with some tips in mind.

Stretch

The most important thing when you're stuck sitting for extended intervals is to stretch. Make sure you're stretching before you even sit down, preparing your joints for the venture. You should stretch while you sit, extending your legs forward if you can and leaning back to stretch your spine. Be sure to get up every so often as well so you can walk around and really stretch out your legs and get the blood flowing again.

Get a Stadium Seat

Most stands and benches available for game watching have no back to them. They're also very stiff and uncomfortable for your bottom and back of your thighs. Get a stadium seat that you can take with you. Many seats have a cushioned bottom and back to them so you can sit more comfortably.

Follow Posture Protocols

Too many people are found slouching in the stands. Because there's no back and the seats are uncomfortable, people often tend to lean forward, slouch to the side, or shift repeatedly. This can do more harm than good. You really need to follow all posture protocols and be sure to remain upright with your back straight if you hope to avoid lasting damage.

Find Alternative Seating

Sometimes, alternative seating is available. You may be able to rent a box where more cushioned seats and other accommodations are present. Perhaps there's a lawn section where you can bring your own chair along. Find alternative seating if you can so you don't have to sit on a hard spot that will undoubtedly leave you feeling less than ideal after a couple of hours.

You can enjoy the game you're watching without fear of body aches for the next few days. Just keep these tips in mind and do what you can to make your stand experience more worthwhile. A few modifications can really help avoid discomfort. If you still experience some soreness, don't hesitate to see a chiropractor. An adjustment may be able to rid you of your ailment and help prepare your body better for the next game.
