Learn to Love Exercise With These Tips
By Genevieve Cunningham
Exercise is a funny thing. We all know that we need it, and we know that making it a part of our routine is a necessary aspect of good health. And some people really love this part of staying healthy! The movement, the sweat, the workouts … they love it. But others are a little less enthusiastic about exercise. They do it because they have to, but they don’t like it. But what if that was something that could be changed? What if you could learn to love exercise? As it turns out, this might be possible. If you’re interested in loving your workout, take a look at these tips for learning to love exercise.
Experiment
It’s entirely possible that you actually do love exercise … you just don’t like what you’re currently doing. There are so many exercises out there, there’s bound to be something you enjoy. Hate running? That’s OK. Try yoga or dance or barre exercise instead. Try walking, cycling, or swimming. There are exercises upon exercises to choose from. Unless you hate to move your body at all, chances are good you’ll find something fun as long as you’re willing to step outside of the box and experiment.
Ask Friends
If you hate exercise, try joining an exercise group … or even better, create one! Ask your friends to work out with you. This allows you to develop a little camaraderie, and you’ll be able to talk and laugh while you burn energy and work the muscles. This won’t cure all of your exercise woes, but it can definitely get your mind and mood moving in a better direction.
Adjust Your Expectations
Sometimes the real problem is that our expectations are just too high. You may never love exercise, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But can you like it? Can you find something mildly enjoyable about it? It might not be as enjoyable as a massage or a vacation, but if you realize that exercise is work, you may be able to find the good parts.
If you really hate exercise, it’s time to readjust your thinking and do some soul searching. There’s no reason to hate something that is so necessary and so beneficial. Use these tips to learn to like your workout, and staying healthy will become easier and more enjoyable than ever before.
