Movement Without Exercise: How to Make It Happen

Movement is a necessary component of a healthy life. Both our bodies and our minds need us to move on a regular basis. For most people, this means get some exercise. But what if you really don't like exercise? Is there any way to keep your body moving without actually hitting the gym? Luckily, the answer is yes. If you need to get more movement in your life, but you're not ready to join an exercise program, take a look at these ways to add a little movement into your everyday routine.

Walk More

People used to walk everywhere. We walked to stores and to work. We walked from town to town. We didn't have any other option. Luckily, modern technology made this part of life a ton easier. Not so luckily, modern technology has taken away one of our most natural exercise options. If you're not keen on exercise, you should definitely make more time for walking. If it's within walking distance, use your feet. This will burn quite a few extra calories without you ever having to step in a gym.

Play

As adults, we often forget how to play. But playing requires the body to move, burns calories, and keeps our muscles loose and limber. If you have kids, adding some play time to your life should be incredibly easy. Kids are always asking to play, and if we are willing to get down and get dirty, then this will be a really easy thing to add to life. If you don't have kids, try playing with your pet. And if you don't have a pet, get together with friends for a quick pick up basketball game or another fun activity. Playing allows you to move your body, but never actually requires thought out exercise. It's a great way to get fit, stay in shape, and keep your body active.

Do Yard Work

Yard work is not fun, but we all like the end result. If you don't want to exercise, but you do want a better body, then yard work is a great place to begin. This kind of work often requires us to be on our feet for hours at a time. It also requires bending, lifting, digging, and other activities that force the use of muscles. While it may really feel like work in the beginning, you may find that you actually get into the spirit of yard work. Over time, it may even become something that you enjoy. If you really need a way to move the body, improving the appearance of your home and yard can benefit your life in more ways than one.

Don't let a dislike of exercise ruin your health. Though exercise is absolutely great for your body, you can get movement in other ways. Use these tips to increase the amount of movement that you're getting in your life, and you may find a healthier body, a healthier mind, and a happier life for years to come.
