By Virginia Laird
Are you one who enjoys a good cigarette? You may even know that smoking is bad and have a desire to quit. However, the joy you get from inhaling deeply the thick flavor of the smoke is just too pleasant for you to put it down. Don’t let your craving for this habit control your life and health. It is never too late to kick the smoking habit. Research suggests that smoking can cause serious health issues, including high blood pressure, lung disease, and cancer. If you are ready to stop smoking to improve your health, there are a few things available to help, including:
- Consider starting a healthy habit
- Invest in the patch or gum
- Consider joining a support group
- Hypnosis can be helpful in quitting
Consider Starting a Healthy Habit
Many stop smoking advisers recommend those struggling to shake the habit should consider starting a healthy habit in its place. This would mean each time a cigarette craving attacked, rather than reaching for the pack, simply reach for the new habit. My grandmother was successful in kicking the habit after 20 years of smoking by replacing it with drinking water. She found, as an added bonus, that since she was drinking more water she was able to drop a few pounds too.
Invest in the Patch or Gum
Many report having a great deal of success with the help of the over-the-counter products, such as the nicotine-based gum and patch. These can be found at many pharmacies and stores which carry medicine. If you are ready to commit to stopping the smoking habit today, drop by the store on your way home from work and pick a product to try out.
Consider Joining a Support Group
There is a plethora of support groups to try which can help many kick the smoking habit. Research suggests when trying to kick a habit or begin one, such as working out daily, there is more success when the participant has people to help encourage and push along. Many communities offer support groups at low or no cost.
Hypnosis Can Be Helpful in Quitting
Research suggests that hypnosis can be one successful way to drop any habit, including smoking. Many who have used this method have reported stopping the habit immediately and never desired a cigarette again. Hypnosis is more costly than some of the other options and may not be available in every community.
It is never too late to stop smoking to improve your health. With these tips, you are ready to kick the habit and never pick it up again. You can do it! Good luck!
