How to Create Stress-Free Mornings
By Donna Stark
If you had to pick one, which one would you choose? Would you prefer to be a long-tailed cat wandering around a rocking chair factory or would you rather try getting your kids out the door in the morning, dressed, clean, and on time? I don't know about you, but both of those options fill me with anxiety! But since none of us would ever choose to be a cat over spending the morning with our kids, I guess we should talk about how to make those crazy mornings run a little smoother for us all. Here are some tips on how to walk out the door with an easy, breezy smile on your face.
Pick Clothes Out the Night Before
If your children are anything like mine, clothing selection can be the hardest, and most time consuming, part of the morning. It can also be the biggest contributor to full-blown meltdowns. So, as a way to avoid all that nonsense, have everybody pick their outfits out the night before. Or if you really want to impress your friends, pick an entire week of outfits out by the end of Sunday night.
Prep Breakfasts and Lunches Ahead of Time
Prepping your breakfasts and lunches is just as important as prepping your dinners. So, after bringing home your groceries, portion out individual snack bags, wash and cut fruit, and make some easy breakfast burritos to pop in the freezer. Doing so will help ensure that everyone leaves the home with a healthy breakfast in their belly and a healthy lunch in their bag!
Wake Up Before Everyone Else
There is nothing worse than trying to wrangle a bunch of children while you are running behind yourself. By waking up before everyone else in the family does, you will be able to find some precious time to clear the fog from your brain, take care of your own needs, and maybe even enjoy a cup of coffee in silence. You know those quiet moments are few and far in between, so grab them when you can!
Organize, Organize, Organize
Organization is key for a well-run home, don't you think? So create a spot for all the essential morning items, such as keys, phones, shoes, backpacks, signed school papers, lunch money, and outerwear. In addition to saving you a couple of extra minutes each day, it may very well save your sanity too!
Mornings Can Be Bliss
Creating a stress-free morning routine may have its ups and downs at first but don't give up! The perfect one is out there and you will find the best one for your family! Besides, there is no other option anyway. Remember, you can't change into a cat.
