The Point Is to Move
By Tom Herrin
When it comes to getting with the program, it is important to know just what the program is. For many, this may be hitting the trails or track. It is always somewhat exciting and refreshing to be in the outdoors moving around. No matter who it is, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine can provide a lift and serve as a motivator. At times, other factors can interfere with all of this. Rainy days, cold, excessive heat, and several other things can make the experience less than desirable. The good news is that treadmills can allow people to make the most of the situation regardless of the conditions outdoors.
You May Use a Treadmill in Situation
While many don't particularly care for what seems like restrictions of using a treadmill, they have plenty to offer. If they are used indoors, the temperature can be controlled. They may also be used day or night. Another plus is that, for those who may be in that group with growing fears for safety when they get out and run, they may exercise in a closed environment. They have complete control over who enters or exits. They may feel secure as they walk or run.
Using a Treadmill May Improve Bone Density
Issues with bones seem to be more common today. This may be due to the fact that more is known about them, but it may also be a reality. Whether it is caused by diet or lifestyle, it can result in some major problems. One of the best ways to strengthen bones is to engage in exercise that is weight or load bearing. Walking or running on a treadmill falls into this category. Apparently it can increase the presence of minerals in the bones. Another plus is that most treadmills are somewhat cushioned so that the actual impact is lessened.
You Can Always Try Them First
If you are thinking about using a treadmill, you may want to try one out at a gym or in a store first. There is no need to make a rushed purchase without knowing what you are getting. At one time, I really didn't care for them, but I decided it may be a good option for my hectic schedule. I bought one and found that using it is very flexible. I often use it for a few minutes in the evening when I don't have time for anything else. For me, 20 minutes or so does a lot of good. I am sold. I particularly enjoy being able to control my speed and difficulty. That way, I can establish the kind of pace and level of progress I feel I need.
