The Healthier the Skin, the Better It Works

By Tom Herrin

Taking care of the skin is something that seems to get more attention these days.  It is rightfully so because we have much more knowledge of what kinds of problems we may have and what things we may do to help.  When our skin is healthy, it will be visibly noticeable as well as easier to maintain.  It doesn't take any great effort to maintain it but just a conscious effort.  With all of the products available today, as well as better knowledge of good practices, we may be able to have the results we desire.

Include Healthy Fats in Your Diet

While many of us try to avoid fats, it is for reasons related to circulatory issues.  When it comes to taking care of our skin, healthy fats may provide something that can be a great benefit.  They may prevent excessive dryness in the skin and hair and promote healing.  These fats can come from foods such as flaxseed, nuts, avocados, eggs, and salmon among other things.

Make Sleep a Priority

Many of us stay so busy with our daily activities that we often feel we can make little time for sleep.  As a result, we may fail to be able to focus as well or perform some mental functions successfully.  An adequate amount of sleep is as important as anything else pertaining to our health.  Looking at yourself in the mirror anytime you have gone without sleep will surely reveal some of the effects on the skin.  It is much like driving a car and never changing the oil.  Maintenance is a big part of anything working efficiently.  The skin is somewhat the same.

There Is No Substitute for Water

No matter what we do, it is difficult to operate without an adequate amount of water.  We need it to help keep us cool, keep our blood from being too thick, and lots of other things.  As for our skin, water is essential to keep it soft and maintain elasticity.  It is often said that we should not wait until we are thirsty to drink water, but we should listen to our body.  If we experience dry skin, our body is telling us that we need to increase our water intake.  With a sufficient amount of water we should have noticeably softer skin and much greater elasticity.  In other words, wrinkles are less likely to show.
