Get a Better Back With Cardio and Chiropractic

By Brandi Goodman

Back problems sometimes stem from a lack of strength. Your lower back may especially suffer if you never do exercises to target this area. Start with some cardio exercises and add in chiropractic care as well for a better back.

How Cardio Helps Your Back

Sitting for long hours can often be a cause of chronic back pain. You have to get up and move your body if you have any hope of combating the effects of this. Cardio is necessary because you need to improve the circulation throughout your body. The blood will flow better and your spine will get access to the nutrients it needs after you've achieved some cardio. Low-impact options are best because they won't put additional stress on the spine yet can still get your heart rate up and working to make a difference.

Walking is a great option. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes that are well-fitting if you choose this workout. Don't stick with paved sidewalks around your neighborhood all the time. The shock of the hard ground can hurt your feet, legs, and lower back. Choose an indoor facility with a softer track or walk through some nature trails instead.

Swimming is also ideal. You can improve your joint strength and get your body moving without any stress on your joints. You can use a kickboard for extra resistance. Stand in the water and twist from one side to the other as you hold the kickboard in front of you. Moves like this can help to strengthen your back. Switch from swimming normally to being on your back as well to move your body in different ways.

How Chiropractic Helps Your Back

Chiropractic care is meant to relieve back pain and get to the underlying issue. It won't just mask your symptoms but may actually help you pinpoint the problem so you can prevent pain in the future. An adjustment can remove joint restrictions that are causing a blockage between your mind and body. Your chiropractic may also offer helpful advice, such as the best exercises to try for your particular pain area. Certain moves will target the lower back while others are meant for the upper back.

Chiropractic and cardio can work together to enhance the strength of your back, as well as the rest of your body. See a chiropractor at The Joint for an adjustment and some tips on getting started with a cardio routine. You want to be sure no subluxations are going to interfere with the exercise you're hoping to begin.
