Why Your Summer Habits Should Be Yearly Habits

By Brandi Goodman

Summer brings about changes for many people. You start drinking more water, eating more fruits and veggies, and getting more exercise. All of these are great summer habits to maintain. You really should be keeping these habits all year long and not just for one season. Here's why.

Water Keeps Your Body Hydrated

The summer heat may require you to drink more water than usual since you're losing some through sweating. You still need to keep your body hydrated all year long though. All systems within your body require water to work. Your joints need to stay lubricated as well. Drink water daily and get at least 64 ounces in so you can function the best of your ability.

Fruits and Veggies Provide Nutrition

Lots of vegetables and fruits come into season during the summer months. It's also nice to bite into a juicy watermelon when it's hot out or grill up some corn on the cob. That's not to say these nutritious options can't be utilized in the fall, winter, or spring. Other choices come into season in different parts of the year. Pumpkin, pears, apples, and squash are some fall possibilities. Enjoy clementines and collard greens in the winter. The spring brings apricots, artichoke, and asparagus. All of these provide nutrition and are great for the body in one way or another.

Exercise Boosts Mood and Builds Strength

People tend to get more exercise during the summer months because it's easier to get out and about. A day spent swimming at the beach works all your muscles while a game of volleyball really gets your arms and legs in gear. You build strength when you exercise and also release endorphins that help boost your mood. Continue working out all year long any way you can. Taking a flight of stairs rather than an elevator is an easy option. Park your car farther away from the store. Walk on your lunch break. Swim inside a local fitness center. Plenty of possibilities exist that are beneficial to your body.

Your summer habits should be yearly habits. Anything you realize that you've started doing more of in the summer should be continued throughout the remainder of the year and thereafter. Do what you can to maintain healthy habits and keep your mind and body strong.
