Humor Month Makes Sense for April
By Brandi Goodman
Though some people are getting over their seasonal depression as spring arrives, others are just ramping up. The spring season brings with it its own set of stressors that can make it difficult to feel happy and well. Stress is at an all-time high for some. It's a big reason why Humor Month makes sense for April.
Laughter Is the Best Medicine
We've all heard the phrase. Laughter truly is medicine for the soul. Spend time laughing and it will do a lot to help perk up your mood and get you feeling like your old self. Try to forget about the worries on your mind and find the humor in everyday life so you can boost your mental health.
Create a Humorous Happy Space
Having your own personal space -- sometimes called a "happy space" -- can help with stress. Go there anytime you're feeling down and want to just focus on you for a while. Adding humor into this space can be incredibly helpful. Find a meme you find hilarious or a picture of you and your friend laughing together and hang it up within this space. Every time you look at it, it will encourage a laugh and ease some tension.
Sign Up for Laughter Yoga
It may seem silly, but laughter yoga can actually do your body a lot of good. You'll be exercising while also laughing your stress away. Sure, the laughter is simulated at first. Your instructor will encourage you to fake a laugh and laugh along with the group. After a while, though, you'll find yourself truly laughing out loud and having a good time being in the moment with others. If you don't have a sign-up option nearby, simply check out a video online and follow along. It would be even better if you would invite a friend over to try it with you.
Watch Your Favorite Comedy
Watching the same movie over and over is actually a huge comfort for people who feel anxious. You already know what's coming. Think of your favorite comedy movie and how much it still makes you laugh each time you watch it. Whenever you're feeling down, pop the movie in and give it a watch again so you can enjoy all the jokes you know are coming yet still love.
Find all the humor you can during Humor Month. Use it as motivation to continue laughing all year through. Laughter is great medicine for your mental health and can help boost your well-being.
