The Power of Pistachios
By Brandi Goodman
National Pistachio Day arrives near the end of January. Celebrate the occasion by buying a bag of pistachios and enjoying them as a small snack when you're feeling hungry. This nut offers more advantages than you may realize.
They Pack the Protein
Protein is necessary for keeping your hunger satisfied. It's also important for repairing damage done to your body -- both internally and externally. When you're looking to boost your health or get yourself feeling well, you should increase your protein intake. Pistachios are an excellent source.
They Offer Antioxidants
You need antioxidants to help fight off disease. Your cells won't stay healthy if you don't have any to offer assistance. Pistachios are a good source of antioxidant power. They're especially beneficial for eye health due to the lutein and zeaxanthin found within them. If you've been having eye troubles lately, add pistachios to your plate.
They Make a Worthwhile Snack for Weight Loss
When you're looking to lose weight, you need foods rich in protein and fiber. Pistachios fall under that category. Eat a handful and you should stay full and satisfied for some time. It will prevent you from overeating unhealthy foods instead.
They Lower Your Cholesterol
Pistachios are beneficial in lowering your cholesterol levels and regulating blood pressure. This is necessary for good heart health. Start adding pistachios to your daily diet so you can get this benefit.
They're Plentiful in Vitamins
Vitamins are necessary for good health, and pistachios are plentiful in them. One of the biggest doses you'll find is Vitamin B6. This vitamin promotes better blood flow and energy, which is great if you're looking to move more and feel great in the process.
Tip: Get the Shelled Version
Although pistachios are good for you, they can also be overdone if you're stuffing yourself with them. You don't want to take in too many calories of anything -- even something that's beneficial. One tip is to get the shelled version instead of the pistachios that are pre-peeled. This will help you take longer to eat them and give your boy time for digestion. It prevents you from overeating.
Pistachios pack a lot more power than you may realize. Add the nut to your daily diet and reap the many benefits they bring. Your health will flourish. Also note, that most nuts similar to these, such as walnuts and almonds, are also beneficial. Go nuts on nuts and your body and brain will benefit tremendously.
