Protect Your Spine, You Only Have One!
By Donna Stark
I think I am a good recycler, but when something breaks in my home, I tend to replace it with a newer version of itself instead of simply trying to fix it. Now, of course, I don't do that with everything. I still get my car repaired and I will still sew a button back on, but there are some things that are just easier to replace. Do you ever wish our bodies were like that, too? Sometimes, when I am in a lot of pain, I'll wish that I can replace the part that hurts. I will say things like, "Just cut it off. Give me a new one," and although that would certainly make life easier, it's an awfully unrealistic thing to say. Which is why it's important to prioritize your health and take care of your body because as much as you would like, you can't go around dismantling it. And the most important thing in the body that you need to protect is your spine.
Protect Your Spine
The health of your spine should be a top priority in your life, as it has a huge impact on your overall wellness. And although you may be able to get a new hip or knee, you will never be able to get a new spine, so you have to take care of it. If you aren't sure what that takes, check out the following suggestions.
- Get a chiropractic adjustment - A chiropractic adjustment will place your spine back into its proper alignment, improving overall function and reducing the risk of degeneration and nerve irritability
- Stay hydrated - Every single part of your body requires the proper hydration in order to function optimally, and your spine is no different! Make it a goal to drink the recommended amount of water each and every day.
- Reduce stress - We have all heard how stress can make us sick and can lead to chronic conditions like heart disease, but did you realize that stress can have negative effects on your spinal movement as well? Taking steps to reduce or manage the stress you experience every day will significantly make things better.
- Stay active - It's imperative that you move your body every day, so try to incorporate 30 minutes of physical activity into your routine. Hit the gym or take a walk, just be sure to find something that you enjoy.
Spinal Health as a Priority
The truth is, you can't recycle your health, so keep up with those healthy lifestyle habits and pay attention to the care of your spine, because no matter where you are at on the scale of wellness, there is always room for improvement.
