3 Tips to Help Keep the Flu at Bay
By Virginia Laird
There is little joy to be had when you are ill, even less when the illness taking over your body is the flu. With flu season in full swing, it is wise to take some precautions in an attempt to keep the virus at bay. While some may choose to get the vaccine, it is not for everyone. Healthcare professionals make it clear, there is little that can be done to ensure the flu does not get you down. However, these same professionals encourage patients to use some advice that can drastically decrease the chances of having the flu be a guest in your home. This advice includes the following tips:
- Avoid touching your face
- Get plenty of rest
- Avoid getting out and about when ill
Avoid Touching Your Face
Touching the face is one sure way of bringing the germs into contact with your body. It is best to avoid touching your face. If the need arises for you to put your hands on your face, make sure to wash them before doing so.
Get Plenty of Rest
The body and the brain need sleep to function. It is suggested by healthcare professionals to make getting enough sleep a priority. These professionals teach that sleep plays a key role in helping to keep the body healthy and fight off illness. Adults should get a minimum of at least six hours of sleep each night, according to the national sleep foundation.
Avoid Getting Out and About When Ill
When illness attacks your body, it is best to stay home. Although you may not have the flu, it can help prevent you from getting it or anything else. When the body’s immune system is already in a weakened state, it increases your chances of catching something else additional to whatever you may be suffering from. Staying home when sick will also prevent you from spreading your germs to others. Do the right thing for yourself and those you love and stay away until you are well.
Now that the holidays are here, applying these tips to your life can be even more crucial. Following the advice carefully, you are sure to reduce the chances of you and your family falling victim to the flu.
