5 Chiropractic Tips to Avoid Bleacher Back
By Brandi Goodman
A long season of sitting in the bleachers could leave your back aching daily. Don't let the entire season go by before you do something about it. Learn some chiropractic tips now so you can enjoy watching your kids or favorite sports team play without ending up stuck in bed because of it.
Stretch Before, During, and After
There's no way you'll be able to get through an entire game without stretching. You should stretch before you even get to the stands, and then get up and stretch your legs out well throughout the duration. Some stretching after the game is over can also help with recovery and ensure your body isn't feeling the full effects of sitting for so long well into the next day.
Choose Alternative Seating
Just because a venue only provides hard bench seats doesn't mean that's always what you have to use. Outdoor venues are great because you can typically bring in a chair or blanket to sit in a grassy area. This may be more suitable for your back than such a hard surface. You can also bring a stadium seat that provides cushion and opens up to give you a back support. It's much better for your body than sitting on a backless bench.
Stay Hydrated
A well-hydrated body can handle the brunt of the bleachers easier. Your joints need to stay hydrated if you have any hope of keeping them flexible and pain-free. Drink plenty of water while you're watching and avoid sugary beverages and caffeine that won't do your body any good.
Use Proper Posture
Your posture can change the pain you're experiencing in a big way. Sit slouched to one side or lean all the way forward and you're bound to develop an ache in your back. You need to sit up straight and use proper posture so you're less likely to suffer. When you do start to feel an ache coming on is when it's best to get up and stretch for a bit. You need to relieve the tension your body is feeling before you go back to sitting.
Get Regular Chiropractic Care
If you know you'll be sitting in the bleachers for an entire season's worth of games, it's wise to start receiving regular chiropractic care. It can help ensure your joints are limber enough to handle the activity and you can recover promptly from every event.
Keep these tips in mind before every game you attend. You want to enjoy the game you're watching -- not sit there thinking about how much pain you're in. These chiropractic tips can help ensure your mind stays focused on the game at hand and you can cheer for the team with wincing.
