3 Diet Tips That You're Doing All Wrong - 2nd Week
By Genevieve Cunningham
Losing weight is a health goal that almost everyone shares. Whether you’re 10 pounds overweight or need to lose closer to 50 or 100, we’re all looking to be slim and trim. In order to do this, we jump on the diet advice train. Eat this, not that. Never touch these foods. Try this crazy new exercise. It’s never-ending! It’s also possible that some of that diet advice is doing more harm than good. If you’re trying to lose weight, check out these three diet tips that you may be doing all wrong.
You’re Restricting Too Many Calories
It’s a good idea to reassess the number of calories you’re taking in and adjust them according to your goals. It’s NOT a good idea to restrict them too much. If you need 1,200 calories a day in order to lose a pound a week, and you only eat 500, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Your body will cling to every last calorie that you give it, and you may find that losing weight is even more difficult. Restrict with caution, and always remember that slow and steady wins the race.
You’re Buying Low and Fat Free Options
Just because it says low fat or fat free doesn’t mean it’s healthy. Some of these types of foods not only have too many calories, but they also have loads of other unhealthy ingredients such as sodium. Always, always, always read the label. Check the ingredients and determine for yourself whether an item is healthy or not.
You Never Allow A Treat
While it’s certainly a good idea to restrict what goes into your mouth, never allowing for indulgences generally leads to binging. Once the binge begins, it’s incredibly difficult to stop. Allow yourself the occasional treat. If you’re feeling a piece of chocolate cake for the day, eat it. Just factor it into your calories. Keeping your indulgences to once a week, or even once a day if it’s small, can help prevent overindulgences and binging later on.
Losing weight is a chore, no doubt about it. But, it’s possible if you’re armed with the right knowledge and an upbeat perspective. Check your diet habits and make sure you’re not falling into these traps. The more knowledge and healthier habits you keep, the closer you’ll get to your dream body.
