Avoid Pain on Those Long Weekend Adventures

By Paul Rothbart

Who doesn't love a long weekend? That extra day off is always welcome to help recharge the batteries before getting back to work. They are also great for short get-aways and adventures. There seem to be quite a few of them in the fall, between Labor Day, Columbus Day, and Thanksgiving. Many people like to take advantage of all of them. Nothing wrong with that, but travel can be hard on the body, especially with all those quick trips so close together. To avoid the pain that sometimes comes with travel, take care of yourself and consider seeing a chiropractor.

Travel by Car

When taking shorter trips, people usually drive. It's an efficient way to get where you're going but spending a few hours behind the wheel or as a passenger can cause back or joint pain. You can minimize the pain by making sure your seat, steering wheel, and mirrors are adjusted properly. You want to be in a comfortable, sustainable position. It's also important to stop and take a break every hour or so. Get out, stretch your legs and have some water or another beverage. If you are feeling a bit tired, grab some coffee. When you get where you're going, you want to be able to enjoy it without being in pain.

Staying in Hotels

You need to have a place to stay when traveling. This is usually a hotel or motel. Even if you choose a quality, comfortable place to stay, sleeping in a bed other than your own can cause back or joint pain and make it difficult to sleep. Although you can't bring your bed with you, bring your favorite pillow or even blanket. It can help you to feel cozy and sleep better. Try stretching before going to sleep and after waking. Stay limber and reduce the risk of pain.

See a Chiropractor

When it comes to back and joint pain, it's hard to beat chiropractic care. Regular visits can help you prepare for your weekend jaunts by keeping your back and joints healthy and strong. This can help you travel without feeling pain and enjoy all of your planned activities. When you get home, a visit to the chiropractor can correct any subluxations or issues that may have happened while traveling.

Getting away on a long weekend can be one of life's great joys. However short bursts of travel can cause pain in various parts of the body. Consider a visit to The Joint Chiropractic. No appointment is needed. You may find that seeing a chiropractor gets your body ready for the rigors of travel. With more than 600 locations nationwide, you may be able to find one near you for an adjustment while on vacation.
