Why You Should Care for Your Spine
By Sara Butler
That little twinge you feel when you turn to the left? Don’t ignore it. Pain, no matter how slight, is your body’s way to communicate to you that something is very wrong, and that’s precisely why you should not discount back pain when you experience it. If you need a bit more convincing, then here are a few reasons you need to remember never to ignore your back pain.
Pain Is the Last Resort
Things have probably been going wrong for a while by the time any pain you experience shows up to the party. That’s why pain is usually not a great indicator of how healthy your spine is. Pressure on your spinal nerves can exist before pain, and that pressure can cause dysfunctions and restrictions that can cause a lot of problems down the road.
This is exactly why regular chiropractor examinations and adjustments are recommended. Your chiropractor can look at the whole picture of your health, checking your balance, muscle function, and posture to assess where you may be experiencing the start of problems with dysfunction and restriction.
Your Back Will Give Out When You Need It
Everyone knows the expression “the straw that broke the camel’s back.” Well, that camel really needed a chiropractor, because that expression sums up spinal problems pretty well. If your spine isn’t working as it should, and you’re experiencing some type of joint dysfunction or restriction, then one day you will do something innocuous such as bending over to pick up a piece of paper and your back will go into spasm. You’ll be down for the count over something you would never have suspected could take you out.
Unfortunately, when you get to this point the problem will often be more extensive and take longer to treat. If you had been receiving regular chiropractic care to begin with, then you probably wouldn’t have experienced such a catastrophic event that now will take time and money to recover from. So – plan ahead when it comes to the health of your back!
Good Posture Keeps You Young!
Your great aunt Darla didn’t develop that crazy humpback overnight, you know. Over time, your spine and nervous system will deteriorate. The pace of this deterioration is something you do have influence over, so caring for your spine and developing healthy spinal habits is important in the long run as you get older.
