3 Reasons to Take Your Child to a Doctor of Chiropractics

I know- when you think of paying a visit to your chiropractic practitioner's office, you don't necessarily expect to see a waiting room full of children. There generally aren't any play structures or picture books, or colorful bean bag chairs. Furthermore, the term 'spinal manipulation' doesn't scream 'kid-friendly', per se. However, before we jump to any distinct conclusions, it's important to remember that chiropractic care can, in fact, be extremely beneficial to people of all ages, including children. With that in mind, here are a few ways that regular visits to a chiropractic practitioner can potentially help your child to stay healthy and happy:

Chiropractic care may encourage neural development.

Because a child's body needs to keep in constant communication with its nervous system (i.e. the brain and spinal cord), if the spine is out of whack, it can hinder the body from regulating itself and working properly. In babies, this may manifest as colic, irritability, poor sleep habits, or the inability to latch correctly when breastfeeding. In older children, the symptoms may include a lack of concentration, behavioral issues, digestive problems, or headaches. This sort of pediatric spinal subluxation has been studied extensively by Doctors of Chiropractic, and many of them can offer individualized treatment plans on order to promote recovery.

Chiropractic care may help to strengthen immunity.

Because the places that kids frequent (schools, playgrounds, museums, etc.) are pretty much germ-infested petri dishes, it's important to make sure that your kid's immune system is in tip-top shape so that they can ward off sickness and infections. A good way to do this is by taking them to see a chiropractic practitioner. The immune system is controlled by the nervous system and certain organs, such as the lymph nodes and the spleen, communicate with your child's brain via nerves. If this system isn't working correctly, then the body is more susceptible to things such as bacteria and viruses.

Chiropractic care may improve your child's overall mood and disposition.

It's no secret that kids get moody from time to time. And, for the most part, there's a clear-cut reason for their irritablity: they're tired, they're hungry, they need attention, etc. However, when you have run out of explanations, then there is a chance that your child's body chemistry is out of whack. With regular chiropractic care, any stress that they are feeling due to misalignment can potentially be relieved, resulting in a happier and healthier child.
