Is Your Life Becoming A Real Headache? See Your Chiropractor
I have learned this the hard way. Now I try to parcel out my workload and skip the headache completely. But sometimes that is difficult to do and I have seen co-workers run into repeat headaches that threaten to undo everything for them. The person who used to be calm and smile a lot, now seems to be snapping at everyone. And then you realize pain is running the show.
When headaches just take over
If you find yourself in that position, as you gulp a pain reliever, sleep late, or go home early, and just hope the headaches will go away you may need to get some help.
One friend of mine ran into headaches every day, and then she had a couple of other major life events show up. At first she just looked like she wanted to sign off and forget the whole thing. But she is not a quitter, and she rallied, making an appointment with her chiropractor and her doctor.
How the chiropractor might help
Chiropractors say the actual cause of the headache often is the tight as a drum rubber band feeling in the shoulders and neck. That can create an out of alignment situation for the vertebrae in the neck. And that creates the pain that moves through your head and just refuses to go away.
When you go to see the chiropractor to get relief
There will be some time spent talking about your headaches, your daily schedule and your medical history.
The chiropractor may also be able to provide some immediate relief with adjustments that correct the neck alignment. And he may want to include massage of the neck and shoulders to release tension. The chiropractor can also give you good suggestions for your posture at your desk, and at home, that will help to keep your neck straight and much freer of tension. And together you can put together the strategy that may make your headaches history.
In my friend’s case, that is exactly what happened. Regular visits, relaxation therapy, posture exercises and overall awareness of what was happening gradually helped to put headaches out of the picture. My friend said it was nothing short of amazing how much better she felt. She started smiling again and life looked a lot more normal.
If your headaches or neck pain continues see your doctor and chiropractor at once to pinpoint causes and start treatment.
