Chiropractic Tips on Eating Better

 

We are all catching the new message that food can be one of the best medicines. A few changes in the diet can prevent a whole batch of future health problems.

The American Chiropractic Association suggests eating more raw foods, selecting organically grown foods when possible, consuming 25 to 30 grams of fiber a day in whole grains, beans, cereals, nuts and some fruits, and drinking eight to ten eight-ounce glasses of water a day.

They also suggest exercising at least 30 to 30 minutes a day, eat out less, brown bag more, quit smoking and limit alcohol.

I have watched friends and relatives start to change their eating habits and taking nutrition more seriously. Less donuts, chips, pizza and beer happened, while exercise became more regular, and weight began to drop. Of course when things look better in the mirror and there is more energy this can become a trend.

A dear friend of mine found herself working too much and eating more. She started regular chiropractic visits and followed the nutrition advice. It was hard to avoid the old donut and burger temptations, but she kept going. She also joined a gym and started a yoga class. Six months later she and the chiropractor were both beaming. She was a size or two smaller and a lot happier and healthier.

Another relative of mine got trapped into long hours, unexpected stress, and financial pressure. He also visited his doctor and his chiropractor and worked his way back to better times. He lowered his blood pressure, walked more, started a Tai Chi class and began to skip fast food altogether.

The Chiropractor’s Visit

Right in line with this advice the chiropractor will have additional tips about making all of this work. The first visit starts with a spinal adjustment to evaluate spinal health. It is followed by a review of medical history and a look at the patient’s daily activities.

The chiropractor’s goal will be to seek solutions for pain relief without medications or surgery.
Next there might be a discussion about diet, weight loss and new ways to relax, dump stress and stay active.
As visits to the chiropractor continue, the patient can often see a whole new health program emerging too with more activity, more energy, and less tiredness.
